Illustration as the gateway

The Gateway Seven Series covers different genres of the Bible through multiple study guides. My role as part of the team at Sublime was to work under the direction of LICC’s Head of Communications to shape and sculpt the 42+ illustrations that are used across the series.

The illustrations use angular geometric shapes created through a single, commonly weighted line. This style was adopted to be robust enough to provide a consistency across the range of genres that the study guides cover and balance the contemporary and astute LICC brand. Each study has its own unique symbol that relates to a key theme or metaphor for the particular book of the Bible it’s looking at.

The complex hero image for each study is then broken up into separate illustrations that are used for each session inside.

These smaller illustrations also work in tandem with a photo that opens up a ‘First Thought’ for the session.

Weaved throughout the illustrations are metaphors within daily life, commonplace occurrences, fairy tales and subtle references to the ancient text.
