One Flew
Over the
Cuckoo’s Nest

Told through the eyes of the Chief, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a protest against the conformed patterns of society that teeters on madness. To emulate this broken system I drew upon the book’s most vivid imagery of rusted machinery, from Nurse Ratched’s remote control to the vents that seemingly pump endless fog.

Flying out of this nest of broken pieces the cover’s hand-drawn typography was created through the almost maddening process of scribbling the words as quickly as possible with charcoal. The charcoal rendered imagery also extended to a set of internal illustrations to mark each part of the novel.
